Local Government Elections · 4 November 2026
Langeberg First is a community organisation from Robertson, Montagu, Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and the farms between. For years we have asked our municipality for documents, checked the numbers and taken the answers to the people who oversee it. Now we are standing for council, to ensure that our questions do not go unanswered for another five years and that proper oversight can start immediately.

Oversight · how Langeberg First works
Unlike the national parties, Langeberg First has no head office somewhere else. Our management lives in Langeberg, and so does the oversight committee that every one of our candidates answers to.
Before anyone stands for Langeberg First, the oversight committee scrutinises them: their record, their skills and their commitment to our seven non-negotiables.
Every Langeberg First candidate who becomes a councillor must report to the oversight committee at least once a quarter, on what came before council, how they voted and what they did for their ward.
No one in a provincial or national office tells our councillors how to vote. The people who hold them to account are their neighbours, and yours.
Ward candidates
Each of our candidates lives in and works for their area. Together they bring the skills a council actually needs. Not sure which ward you are in? Find your ward and voting station.

Our record · under the L1 lens
Every claim we make can be checked. The full timelines and source documents are on a separate page, and so are the municipality's finances and councillor and official salaries.
Taken off the proposed 2026/27 budget after residents objected. That is an average of about R2 300 per household, per year.
Proposed electricity increase versus the increase finally approved.
Proposed property rates revenue, before and after the objections.
Everything we have done, step by step, with the municipality's answers and the source documents.
Infrastructure money approved and never spent, cash going down and debt going up.
What councillors and senior officials were paid over four years. Did you receive the value you would expect?
Timelines & documents
Each timeline shows what we asked for and how the municipality answered. The documents behind them are in the register below. Personal information has been removed where the law requires it.

Under the L1 lens
Every year council approves money to build and fix pipes, pumps, roads, sidewalks and sewers. Every year a large part of it is not spent. And what does get built is not always what residents need most.
Some projects are finished, even over budget. Others that keep water flowing and sewage out of rivers wait year after year.

Under the L1 lens
In three years the cash the municipality can actually use fell by almost half. Over the same three years, what households and businesses owe it for services quadrupled, and more than half of that debt is now written down as unlikely to be collected.

Voter education
Local elections decide who runs your water, electricity, roads, refuse and rates for the next five years. Here is what to expect.
The voters' roll closed on 7 August 2026. You can only vote at the voting station where you are registered. Check your station below.
Take your green barcoded ID book, smart ID card, or a valid temporary ID certificate. Without one of these you cannot vote.
Stations open at 07:00 and close at 21:00. If you are in the queue at 21:00, you will still be allowed to vote.
Make one clear mark next to your choice on each ballot. Any mark that shows your choice counts, a tick included. Your vote is secret.
Use the Electoral Commission's official tools. Enter your address to see your voting station and ward, or your ID number to check where you are registered.
Not sure where your ward ends? Each candidate card above has a map of the ward and its voting stations. See the ward maps.
No data? SMS your ID number to 32810 for your voting station (R1 per SMS), or call the Electoral Commission on 0800 11 8000.

Choose the person who will represent your ward. Look for the Langeberg First logo next to our candidate's name. Our candidates are listed above.

Choose a party. Look for Langeberg First and our logo. This decides how the remaining council seats are shared out.

Choose a party for the district council, which shares responsibility for things like fire services and municipal health.
Langeberg council has 23 seats: 12 ward councillors and 11 filled from party lists in proportion to party votes. A strong party vote brings more members of the same team into council, which is what lets them pass motions and form or hold a governing coalition.
No. Your ballot does not carry your name. Nobody may ask you to prove how you voted, and nobody may force or pay you to vote a certain way.
Special votes take place in the days before election day, at your station or at home for voters who can't travel. Applications are made through the Electoral Commission within its deadlines. Check elections.org.za for the current dates.
Council approves the municipal budget, sets property rates and tariffs, appoints the municipal manager and senior managers, and is meant to oversee how money is spent. That is why who sits in council directly affects your monthly account.
